Great competition. 5 tasks in 5 days. The week before and the week after had classic Balkan summer weather conditions too. No accidents. Various task east and west along the mountain range plus interesting flatland turnpoints. The concept of the competition worked well and will be hopefully accepted by pilots in future (low entry fee, no launch packed, no shiny parties and no official ceremonies. Efficient retrieve and GPS-ing. Creative and safe task designing. Just flying, joy and learning!)

Friday Day 5
The last day. Pilots are tired. Moderate gusty east wind at take off. Few wind dummies and drifted thermals. After waiting for better conditions a 42 downwind task was set (Sopot-Pirdop). In order to avoid dificult gaggling around the take off, the start was divided to several start gates every 15 minutes. At the take off the conditions were strong but later along the course it became smooth and good working. 46 pilots in goal. Happy faces. Free beer. Brief closing ceremony.

Thursday Day 4
The expected stronger NE winds didn't come and the day started with high promising cumulus clouds. 82 kilometer task around the Rose Valley was set (Sopot-Kalofer-Banya-Rozino-Sopot). The humidity soften the conditions and improved the thermals. Despiote the high leaving of the mountain many pilots bombed out near first turnpoint in the blue and agains the 3-4 m/s NE winds. Then in flatlands it became easy again with superb thermals in the flatlands and the mountain. After Banya some pilots flew along Sredna Gora, other flew better directly trough the valley and third played it safe by returning again to Stara Planina to make Rozino at the other end of the valley. 33 pilot made goal and find it difficult to land. Like the whole atmosphiere decided to go up today ;-)

Wednesday Day 3
The forecasted light NE wind persuaded the task commette to set a return task to the east because the next days the stronger easterly winds would prevent exploring this direction. 82 km task Sopot-Skobelevo-Anevo-sopot was decided. 30 pilots made the goal. Many landed near the hole of Dzhendema (Hell). A little bumpy conditions with two open rescues.

Tuesday Day 2
The forecast for very light NE winds and excellent gradient turned good. Unfortanetely the suggestion for a 130 km task to Yambol was refused by the task commette but they still decided a good task of 87 km between the mountain and flatlands (Sopot-Karnare-Manolovo-Banya-Sopot). The begining was a little turbulent but later it became smooth and more tricky in the flatlands. 26 pilots in goal. First is Godfrey Wennes, followed by Orlin Dimov and Yassen Savov.

Monday Day 1
The cold front was a refreshing break between the World Cup and Skynomad Open.
The registration was smooth and lazy because of the post cold front strong north wind.
Monday was the first competition day. The forecast was correct - medium NE winds with a superb gradient, two inversions above 3000 meters and possible overcasting.
The pilot committe (Godfrey, Orlin, Dimitar, Peter and Mitzo) designed a first-day-comp adapting task of 53 kilometers in the flatlands between Sopot- Vasil Levski and Banya. This firsth task was made shorter to get a feeling of the level of the pilots in this even compared to the pros in the World Cup.
The first gaggle took advantage of the sunshine remainings but those who were greedy to climb more had to waste time in big ears and spiraling down in order to avoid a cloud suck after the first turn point. The the flatland worked well but still filtered those searching for stronger lift from those who worked the weaker 1-2 m/s climbs.
Peter Simonics had an amazing low save from 30 meters just in front of the training hill at Dabene.
Orlin Dimov and Yassen Savov were first and second followed by Dmitry Korolev and Godfrey Wennes.
Finaly 15 pilots made the goal and thos who waited longer for a retrieve were more motivated for the goal for next days.
